So yes, this title, this injunction almost, you have probably already read it. 10 good reasons to spend a weekend under the Italian sun or in the middle of the flowery plains of Holland. But did you know that less than 2 hours from your home, there is a nature destination where life is good? Why not give up the plane this spring to enjoy a break in a green setting just a stone's throw from home?
Here is the month of May and its flowery landscapes. The days are getting longer, the sun is higher. The warmth of summer is no longer far away and the sweetness of spring is setting in. In 10 “good reasons”, we outline the essentials and give you a glimpse of the charm of our region.
1.A journey of less than 2 hours drive coming from Poitiers. Very precisely, 1h15! And 1h27 to reach Marans, gateway to the Marais Poitevin from the Pictavian capital. A short journey that we appreciate both to fully enjoy our stay… and to fill up with gas.
2.It's the perfect setting for a big breath of fresh air. Vast spaces, omnipresent nature... From the pollarded ash trees of the Marais to the barley fields swaying in the morning wind, our countryside welcomes you to reconnect with nature.
3.We appreciate the calm of the Marais Poitevin. Nothing better than sliding on the water and sink into a maze of greenery to disconnect ! In traditional boat, canoe, in paddle or small electric boats, we discover all the facets of the Marais. We learn the history of these extraordinary spaces and their 8000 km of canals (yes, you read that right, 8000 km of which 350 are signposted!)
4.A stay for which it is also possible to multiply the activities without expense ! Whether it be bike ou hiking, the Aunis Marais Poitevin is full of ideas for walks for everyone. Beautiful loops to do in the Surgéienne countryside, cycle routes on the marsh side... there's something for everyone! And if you have an interfederal fishing license, why not also tease the fish in one of the many fishing spots ? or let yourself be guided by our facilitator for the fishing for small fish ?
5.We avoid the crowds present in July-August to take a well-deserved break, when the landscapes are the greenest! The best time to do wonderful souvenir photos. Camera in hand, we also take a walk in Aiguillon Bay. Charron, we then capture the sunset from the small fishing port of Le Pavé, or even the evening lights at the port of Corps de Garde after a mussel tasting.
6.Did you know that it is also a great region to fill up on local products ? On sale at the farm, in our farm shops or on our village markets, taste the fresh produce and local specialities: cheese cakes, pineaux, craft beers*… But also the simple and tasty cuisine of our restaurants and beautiful tables. A weekend that promises to be delicious 😉 And why not go and meet our producers who will talk to you with passion about their profession? Vegetable growing, dairy cows ou sheepfold… There is something for every taste !

7. We take advantage of the warm welcome offered in our guest rooms. We then fall asleep in a beautiful Charente farmhouse or a small charming house in the area. A gentle awakening with the chirping of birds and the smell of fresh croissants, would you like it?
8.We meet passionate people here and fascinating, delighted to share their know-how. Whether they are painters, potters, stained glass artists…they have gold in their hands to create bespoke works. Push the door of their workshops and discover their unique stories. Get started with mosaic, discover the ceramic or painting !
9. We dive into the village life, the space of a weekend. We adapt to this peaceful rhythm; we discover its animation on market days, we stroll in the flowery alleys after a coffee in the sun. We will thus appreciate a break on the terrace facing the castle of Surgeres or on the town square of Courson orSour leaf !
