A village where life is good, and a lake, Lac de Frace, lost in lush greenery: Aigrefeuille d'Aunis, just a few kilometers from La Rochelle, has it all.

The opinion of the local counter

A light mist on the lake, frost sparkling on the vegetation, and, breaking the silence, the song of a few passing birds…. the Frace Lake seems straight out of a fairy tale, in the middle of winter! A landscape not to be missed…

A city and its lake

The charming central square of Aigrefeuille comes alive, at the foot of the Saint-Etienne church. While strolling in its alleys, one sees here and there the small and large monuments, witnesses of its history: the Saint Sacrament school, old foundation of the XVIIIth century which was used as a military hospital during the 1st World War.

Further on, the old gendarmerie, built in the XNUMXth century. We then head towards Lac de Frace, a few kilometers from the town center. The road there is pleasant and green, presaging a preserved natural site… A few locks further on, the lake appears before our eyes, a peaceful stopover for our walk.

Simple siesta, fishing, boat trips, games for children, bucolic walks or picnics by the water's edge… Whatever your activity, you will find a break here that is a little out of time. We ? We like it Frace Lake in all seasons, for its varied landscapes, its animation or its tranquility.

A bit of history...

Aigrefeuille d'Aunis was once made up of around twenty hamlets, old farms and stately properties. Two kilometers from the town center, Lac de Frace seems to have been an ancient peat bog.

Aigrefeuille's industry developed for a long time around its mills, its lime kilns and its distilleries, before turning to dairy and cheese production in the 60s.

Traditionally a land of agricultural markets since the Middle Ages, the village is still today a place of markets and fairs. Aigrefeuille comes alive every Saturday, Wednesday afternoon for the organic market (16 p.m.-20 p.m.) and the 2nd Tuesday of the month for the fairs.
