With a community of 4 Marandaises and Marandais (INSEE data for 623), Marans is a welcoming, lively town where life is good. It has a dynamic and diversified economy.
It benefits from its historical heritage, being today an active marina, welcoming up to 180 boats. It is a pleasant tourist city, cycling stage of the Vélodyssée and stage point of the Grand Site Naturel du Marais Poitevin.
The river city has developed a lively and quality tourism sector. There is all the necessary infrastructure for this part of the economy: camping, hotels, lodges, bed and breakfasts and restaurants.
Located on the RD 137 linking La Rochelle (25 km) to Nantes (130 km), on the borders of Charente-Maritime and Vendée, Marans has developed an energetic economic entity.
Even if the tertiary sector accounts for more than half of jobs (59,4% in 2007), the Marandaise economy is strongly anchored in the French industrial fabric.
Among these industries, there are boatyards, a pharmaceutical industry, an agri-food industry, precision mechanics, cutting and boilermaking and several companies in the building sector.
