A peu d'histoire:
The town of Aigrefeuille-d'Aunis occupies a geological depression (cuvette) which, in medieval times, corresponded to land liable to flooding, formed by swamps and peat bogs, favorable to forests composed mainly of trees from aquiferous environments ( alders and ash trees in particular). The town is crossed in its entire length, from south-west to north-east, by one of the ramifications of a small stream, the Virson.
In the commune of Aigrefeuille-d'Aunis, the ramifications of the Virson are at the origin of a modest river, one of its branches of which serves as a communal boundary, to the east, with the commune of Forges, while another has its source in a marshy area which feeds the Lac de Frace, located northeast of the town and made up of two ponds.
This stream is important for the municipality. It has been used to fix human habitat and activities since medieval times. The town of Aigrefeuille as well as the villages and hamlets of Fragnée, Péré, Taillée, Bois-Gaillard and Frace developed on both sides all along its course.
