In the Vallée du Curé – which owes its name to the river of the same name – Vouhé is a small village full of flowers, green and full of freshness. A place that we love to find on hot summer days…

Vouhé, flowered village

What makes the charm of Vouhé, it is first of all its flowers of all kinds which color the alleys and the gardens. Highlighting the old stones of the buildings, the hollyhocks, pride of the Charente-Maritime, are of course in the spotlight... But not only.

In spring, the village adorned with a thousand colors, has everything of a charming postcard. Then it is its fountains and streams that enchant walkers. During the summer, passionate inhabitants also invite you to discover Vouhé along the water, its gardens seen from the inside, its waterways, its history and its little stories. Remember then that you must not say "fountain, I will not drink your water"...

A bit of history...

In Gallo-Roman times, the village was called "Voyaco" meaning "waterway".

The first construction of the church of Vouhé dates surely from the distant time when the villagers had to protect themselves from the barbarian bands which prevail in the surroundings. In the absence of a castle, the church allowed them to take refuge while waiting for help from the lord of Surgères. A little anecdote: it is also the native village of Jean de Limur, director and actor from the 30s and 45s.

The opinion of the local counter

We like to stroll through the flowery alleys listening to Françoise Rosalie, the only bell still visible in the church, ticking off the hours...
