This gate was built in the 17th century in several stages.
Originally only the carriage gate and the right pedestrian gate existed. The one on the left is much more recent.
Its function was to mark the entrance to the castle and it bears the coat of arms of the lords of Surgères.
Its decoration is very rich: acanthus leaves, palmettes, rosettes and tiled columns adorn the building.
