HISTORY:
The Church of Notre Dame des Marais, built between 1900 and 1902, was unfinished due to a lack of financial means (additional work having been necessary to reach solid ground and build cement piles there).
It was inaugurated in 1902 without a bell tower.
Barthélémy Fabbro, born in Marans on July 28, 1894 was sad to see the church in which he had made his first communion at the beginning of the century, remaining without a steeple. At 93, he decided to offer a bell tower to the Church of Marans.
Mr. Barthélémy Fabbro chooses the model he wishes to see made. It was built by a local mast construction company, mixing stone, glass and metal (brushed aluminium).
May 2, 1988: start of construction of the bell tower
July 28, 1988: laying of the arrow.
From the panoramic room of the bell tower, four tourist information tables allow you to discover Marans and the Marais which surrounds it.
Access to the bell tower is via a staircase of 147 steps.
