The site of the brickyard houses the only Hoffmann kiln in the Region. It will reveal to you through a simple but precise museography the secrets of the manufacture of tiles and bricks as they were cooked in the Marais until 1960.
Located in the country of Aunis, at the gates of the Marais Poitevin, in the north of Charente-Maritime, close to the department of Deux-Sèvres, this visit site has just been rehabilitated by several communities, so as to discover the operation of an old brickyard (manufacture of bricks), and more generally on the theme of eco-housing.
The Marais Poitevin subsoil is mainly made up of bri, gray clay. This excellent quality clay has long been exploited to be transformed into tiles and bricks. Each village of the wet marsh had at least one tile factory, more or less productive. That of La Grève sur le Mignon was one of the largest in the area in terms of number of workers, size and volume of production.
The Four Hoffmann (very large continuous fire oven, unique in Poitou-Charentes) hosts a museum space retracing the history of this heritage site and the path of clay, the Marais…. To the brick!
The structure has 2 sanitary facilities (both perfectly adapted for people with disabilities), near the entrance to the site.
A municipal car park located 100m from the entrance to the site has been redone, so as to be able to welcome visitors in the best possible conditions. A space reserved for people with disabilities has been created.
